What Toco supplies in load binders

Toco supplies ratchet and lever type load binders for securing loads during transport. A load binder tensions transport chain that is run over a load on a flatbed or trailer, holding it firm so it cannot shift in transit. Toco supplies binders matched to 10 mm and 13 mm transport chain, with the chain and end fittings to suit the securement task. Load binders are part of Toco’s lashing equipment range, alongside transport chain and tie down straps.

Ratchet binder and lever binder, the difference

A lever, or snap, binder uses a single over centre lever to take up the slack in one quick movement. It is fast to engage, and the handle is then secured in place. A ratchet binder uses a ratchet mechanism to tension the chain in controlled steps, which gives finer control of the tension and a safer, more gradual release. Toco supplies both so the binder suits the load and the operator’s preference.

Can a load binder be used for lifting?

No. Load binders are designed to tension and secure transport chain over a load for restraint during transport. They are not rated or certified for lifting, and must never be used to lift or suspend a load. For lifting, use rated and certified lifting tackle such as chain slings or steel wire rope slings.

Standards, certification and inspection

Load binders are supplied for cargo securement and used in line with the load restraint standards AS 4344 and EN 12195. As securement devices they are not part of Toco’s LME 008 lifting testing scope. LME No. 008 is Toco’s Department of Labour approval as a Lifting Machinery Entity, held at company level. Manufacturer documentation is supplied on enquiry. Binders and transport chain in service should be inspected before use and withdrawn if the handle, hooks or chain show damage, distortion or wear.
